Aquamarine is quite durable and hard, having mineral hardness from 7.5 to 8 on the Mohs scale. It falls under the Beryl gem group with hexagonal crystal structure. Its chemical structure contains Beryllium Aluminium Silicate represented as Be3Al2 (Sio3)6. Its specific gravity is 2.69 and refractive index between 1.57 and 1.58. It has a double refraction of 0.006.
